In the movie ââ¬Å"The Wizard of Ozâ⬠, the hardship of deciding which road or path to take by choosing which pathway she will travel on the unknown. Embarking on the unknown; in the poem The Road Not Taken, the author uses rhyme to make it easier or clearer for the reader to contemplate. ââ¬Å"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and be one traveller long I stood. â⬠In ââ¬Å"Two roads divergedâ⬠it was offering us a choice on which path to stride on, by illustrating ââ¬Å"yellow woodâ⬠it characterizes the road as cautious. ââ¬Å"And be one traveller long I stoodâ⬠one traveller alone, no companion, own choice, uncertainty of which path to voyage on. Therefore the uncertainty is the obsticle of hardship of his journey. Furthermore in the movie, The Wizard of Oz we distinguish Dorothy and Toto embarking on their journey. In the long shot Dorothy and Toto illustrate the extensive road ahead of them. It also shows the solitude of Dorothy that sheââ¬â¢s got nowhere left to go apart from running away. The baggage in her hand emphasizes that sheââ¬â¢s taken everything she owned and not returning home. Low modality demonstrates the gloominess of the journey ahead. In relation to ââ¬ËThe Road Not Takenââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËThe Wizard of Ozââ¬â¢ both texts, illustrate solitude, hardship, beyond the unknown and the uncertainty of choice. Embarking on the unknown; in the poem ââ¬ËThe Road Not Takenââ¬â¢ the author uses imagery to illustrate the choice between the different paths. The unknown is there to explore. ââ¬Å"Then took the other, as just as fair, and having perhaps the better claim, because it was grassy and wanted wear. â⬠In ââ¬ËThen took the other just as fairââ¬â¢ illustrates to us that the author portrays the rare choice of which path he chose to take. ââ¬â¢And having perhaps the better claimââ¬â¢ the author is certain that heââ¬â¢s made the right choice. ââ¬ËBecause it was grassy and wanted wearââ¬â¢ the imagery described as the grass has never been tread on or hasnââ¬â¢t been walked on; undisturbed. Therefore the text symbolizes the choice of journeys undertaken prior. Furthermore in the movie ââ¬ËThe Wizard of Ozââ¬â¢ we observe Dorothy, Glinda and the wicked witch of the west. In the full shot we establish that Dorothyââ¬â¢s house has landed on top of the wicked witch of the east. The witch of the west approaches to save the ruby shoes but they are mysteriously positioned on Dorothyââ¬â¢s feet. The witch cautions Dorothy that there will be vengeance. In the full shot we observe Dorothyââ¬â¢s face that sheââ¬â¢s petrified. The full shot demonstrates emotions on the characters face. In the background the munchkins are laying flat on the ground terrified from the witch after the witchââ¬â¢s journey flying. In relation to ââ¬Å"The Road Not Takenâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Wizard of Ozâ⬠in both texts we establish the uncertainty of choice chosen and the different journeyââ¬â¢s they embark upon. Embarking on the unknown; the author uses symbolism to illustrate the colour of his journey. ââ¬Å"And that morning equally lay, in leaves no step had trodden black. â⬠In ââ¬Ëleaves o step had trodden blackââ¬â¢ this portrays that no living being had ever walked upon this path before due to the fact that the black is symbolising gloominess and depression. Therefore, again the uncertainty of the unknown is the obsticle of the journey heââ¬â¢s embarking upon. Furthermore, in the movie ââ¬Å"The Wizard of Ozâ⬠we establish the flying monkeys in the air with Dorothy in their arms. The upshot was used to illustrate to us the length and height they flew up from the ground to emphasize to the viewers that they should be fearful of them. The dull use of colours focuses on the darkness the witch and the monkeys originate from. The monkeys disrupt Dorothyââ¬â¢s journey which she was so close to getting to her destination. In relation to both texts we distinguish the interruption of the journey, the gloominess of the different types of journey you embark upon. In conclusion to these two texts we establish that journeying upon the unknown can position you in a situation you donââ¬â¢t want to be placed in. Also the hardship and the uncertainty of choice upon the voyage and the solitude of both characters in both texts are demonstrated throughout the mission. Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres provide a range of early years services from the expectant parent to children aged 0-4 years. These are sometimes described as aââ¬â¢ one stop shopââ¬â¢. This will include childcare, health, parenting and family support services. In the most deprived areas there may be a requirement to ensure the delivery of day-care, where this is unavailable. Many Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres are located on school premises. Whilst primarily designed to provide services for pre-school children the buildings can also support schools to deliver ââ¬ËExtended servicesââ¬â¢. Many Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres work in partnership with their local Education Improvement Partnership, to ensure joined up approaches to support families to meet their childrenââ¬â¢s needs in a ââ¬Ëlearning communityââ¬â¢. Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres are managed as part of the Childrenââ¬â¢s and Young Peoples Services. Those who manage Centres come from a wide range of backgrounds, including Social Work, Nursing and Teaching and share their particular expertise within the local network of Centres. The centres can offer parenting education and family support services. There may be a day nursery on site which will be registered with OFSTED. Parents should always ask to see the current OFSTED report, or download it from the website. Supporting families in the foundation years, was published by the government in 2011 setting out the governmentââ¬â¢s intention for more families to benefit from parenting advice and support from pregnancy to the age of five. The parenting class trial was announced in October 2011, by Sarah Teather, Minister for Children and Families. These trial parenting class areas are Camden, Middlesbrough and High Peak in Derbyshire. Parents in these areas can download a voucher for ? 100. These vouchers will provide support with: * Learning through play Parents working together as a team * Communicating and staying calm * Managing sleep issues * Coping with difficult behaviour * Rules and routines * Understanding different stages of your childââ¬â¢s development Vouchers can either be downloaded from the canparent website to a computer or mobile phone, or paper vouchers are being distributed by childrenââ¬â¢s workforce professionals in the trial areas and vouchers can also be collected from Boots stores in the trial areas. Local Authorities will provide both Registered and Voluntary Registered childcare provision. Any childcare provider must be registered with OFSTED, if they look after children under 8 years for more than two hours a day, for payment. Registered chilminders are inspected against five welfare requirements: * Safeguarding and promoting childrenââ¬â¢s welfare * Suitable persons * Suitable premises * Organisation * Documentation Inspections of new childcare settings are usually carried out just after registration and then once every three years. The Voluntary Childcare Register is a section of the register that offers the choice to register for those who would not normally do so. They are mainly looking after children aged 8 or over in their own home. By joining this part of the register they are showing parents that they are willing to meet certain requirements relating to people. Premises and provision designed to keep children safe. Parent/Toddler groups are exempt from registration by OFSTED, as parents/carers stay with their children. The second department for education is the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, they are responsible for further and higher education and are aiming to establish a world class education system in the UK, so that we have the highest skills needed for conomic success in a modern world. From September 2013 the school leaving age will rise to 17 and from 2015 it will rise to 18 years. The government have raised the leaving age due to research which shows that young people who carry on learning or training are likely to be healthier and less likely to get into trouble with the police. Students can stay at school, go to college, become an apprentice or join a part time training course. They can earn money and learn new skills at the same time. The main qualifications are: * Diplomas Vocational courses for those who know what career they would like to follow * A levels Academic Subjects * International Baccalaureate offering a wider range of subjects than A level * Functional skills This qualification can form part of the Diploma, usually in Maths, English and IT * Foundation learning has been developed for low achieving 14-19 year olds to help raise participation, attainment and progress From now the learning is more about what the child wants to do and less about what parents want them to do. Parents can help with the decision making process by talking through the childââ¬â¢s choices and offering to support them whatever their choice. New teacherââ¬â¢s standards were introduced by the Department for Education in September 2012. They set a clear baseline of expectations for the practice and conduct of teachers once they are qualified. The teacherââ¬â¢s standards are used to assess all trainees working towards QTS and all those on their induction period. They are also used when assessing the performance of all teachers subject to the Education (school teachersââ¬â¢ appraisal) (England) Regulations 2012. Local Government are responsible for providing advice and support to the schools in their local area. They are responsible for providing staff training and development, special educational needs, the curriculum community cohesion, school management issues, behaviour management and the development of school policies. Local Government will administer committees that deal with education and are responsible for investigations that the authority carries out on employees or potential employees of the authority or governing body of schools. They advise schools on the conditions of service for non-teaching staff and on their grading. They will also provide specifically trained teachers to support pupils who have special needs or need to be assessed for a particular learning need. These services are sometimes free of charge, but schools are usually expected to pay for them. They pass on any changes in policy and offer staff training through their local education development centre and in some cases whole school training. It is the responsibility of the schools to make sure they are up to date with all the current policies which are put in place for children, young people and their families. One of these is the Every Child Matters framework, which is one of the largest provisions that has been put in place for developing their roles in the community. They should have policies in place that meet the expected national requirements and also follow the LEA guidelines. OFSTED have two types of inspection of local authority childrenââ¬â¢s services: * Inspection of local authority arrangements for the protection of children: These unannounced inspections look at how effective the local child protection service is; and how well the local authority leads its associates in helping and protecting children. The inspection takes eight days. They carry out activities, such as looking at case files, talking to children, young people, parents and carers. They will inform the relevant senior manager if they find any unresolved issues of significant risk or harm to a child or young person. The lead inspector will write the report, which includes grades and it is then published on the website within 22 days, together with a version for children and young people. * Ofsted will inspect a further education college with residential care for young people under 18, such as Hereward College, Coventry. They offer residential placements and the required support for those with disabilities. * Secure Training Centres for young people aged 10-17 years who are on remand or serving a Detention and Training Order, or are subject to a secure order under section 25 of the Children Act 1989. * Residential special school for students with special educational needs * Cafcass provides advice to the family courts and provides support and advice for children and families involved in family court proceedings * Boarding school where children study and live during term time. Independent boarding school charge fees for tuition, board and lodging. Costly in terms of money and loss of life, the Civil War, Vietnam, and both World Wars left lasting impressions on the people who endured them. These wars often defined entire generations of Americans. More often than not, everyone alive in each of these major campaigns was somehow affected in the war. Some served in the military, some worked in the factories that made weapons, while others had relatives who actively participated in the war effort. Recently, the topic of World War II has become a hot topic for Hollywood filmmakers. Movies such as Saving Private Ryan, and The Thin Red Line used graphic scenes of violence and depictions of the hardships of the av erage soldier on the front line in ways previously unseen in prior World War II movies. The goal of the directors was to remind the younger generations of the bravery and selflessness of the soldiers who served in World War II. The soldiers in these movies were purposely portrayed as a group of men from diverse backgrounds who came together to fight for a common cause. These soldiers were also depicted as average men, not the superhuman men portrayed in earlier films, of which John Wayne is an example. Yet in these movies, these average men were the ones who committed the greatest acts of bravery. In conducting my interview, I realized that this depiction was not far off the mark. Given that the region has not experienced peace for a long time, the relationship is geared at enhancing a form of stability through promotion of pro-Western regimes like Jordanââ¬â¢s. In achieving this, the relationship will manage to restore peace and normalization between the Arab community and Israel since Israel has been in conflict with Palestine government for a considerable long time. The challenge facing the relationship is that they respond and prioritize to these challenges differently. The difference in strategies and policies preferred by the two countries has increasingly cause tension on the relationship as they are seen to undermine the interest of the other nation. For instance, Israel view American policy to be naivete in the Middle Eastern diplomacy as it brings more consequences to Israel. On the other hand, t he US considers Israel to be insufficiently attentive to its interests since most of its actions have been detrimental. The two states are different in some ways, as the US is a superpower whereas Israel is a regional power and this presents them with different concerns (Malka 2011). In respect to this, the two sides should be ready to accommodate each other regardless as in so doing; resentments and misunderstandings that have continually mounted the relationship will be dealt with.
